Ochre is a paper bug working at the Explorer’s Association, while retired from exploration herself she's still a great help and asset to others.

Appearance

Ochre is a moth in her late 40’s, with her colors being very similar to a scalloped oak moth with a pale yellow color to her with her wings taking on that of an ochre yellow color. She has two spots on her wings with a brown band, along with curly fur. Her antennae point upwards.

Personality

She, at the start of her explorer career, was a very snarky and playful bug, often joking with her teammate and making light of a hard situation to be able to process it. Though she can also be ready to fight at any moment which means her temperament back then wasn't always the best, and she can tend to be stubborn and quick to judge.

Despite this, she’s very caring, helpful, and wants to be a great help to her community. Now that she’s a paperbug and a little older, she's not as snarky as she used to be, but can still get some light playful jabs in. And while still stubborn and sticks to her guns, she will do what’s best for herself and others.

History

Pre-Canon

Ochre’s start can be pointed at her aspiration to be on an explorer team when she was younger after hearing about a lot of the teams that rose to their title before she even hatched, (especially Team Snakemouth). Following that dream when she finally reached early adulthood, she went off to join the Explorers Association with a beetle named Bronze and together they formed team Pincher (named after their preferred team attack). They went on several missions before they ended up being known as a team to call for on hard missions, for any team that needs more than two bugs, or a quick call in for any urgent quests.

On one of these quests, she was requested by a mantis to help with a friend of his. That friend ended up being a moth, Maroon, who bit off more than he could chew by thinking he could go into a cave alone, and he ended up getting blocked in by inichas, much to his annoyance. She and her partner helped by getting rid of the inichas, and then by getting Maroon down. She told him not to get into any more caves unless he wants to see her again with a playful shove, unaware that she was going to keep seeing him again, but thankfully not to get him out of any more pickles. It was more of him slowly turning their small greetings down the street into small conversations, and those small conversations turning into hangouts.

A Nymph & a Mothfly

Ochre honestly looked forward to those hangouts, whether it be with Maroon and Orange, a fellow explorer named Lemon, or just Maroon. Suddenly, she had something else to look forward to outside of her job as an explorer. It would be a while till she and Maroon decided to become a couple. It's been like this for a good few years and she’s seen friends come and go, one of them being Lemon, and during this time she and Maroon were Orange’s closest family, as they soon became aunts and uncles to a little nymph.

It was around Gold’s ten year mark that something go horribly wrong. And just like that, her nephew and friend ended up disappearing…or worse. While she was a great support to her husband, she dove into her work to give herself something else to do instead of focusing solely on that grief.

Rise of Rocket Corp

During this time she ended up meeting a thistledown velvet ant, Mitsi, near the Wasp Kingdom. She was just helping with an escort mission, but during it she started chatting with the younger bug, and eventually they developed a little friendship as they kept in touch. She definitely noticed the wasps’ interest in handiwork, rather than usual soldier work, and made a small comment saying maybe she should explore outside the hive. It might suit her better.

It would be a few moons until she was invited to see the Blindspot, the promising settlement for future bugs, and she was so proud of Mitsi. Through her, she befriended Agent, as he was a promising dragonfly as well. Saying she’ll definitely stop by for tool sharpening and anything else she can do to help out, before wishing them luck. During this time, she ended up having an egg with Maroon. After a lot of consideration, only after the choice to settle down finally came into view after seeing how happy Mitsi was. But of course, she figured she could do a few more explorations.

Her last was at the Blindspot, but it was not anything she was prepared for. Instead, it was all ashes. Ashes, smoke, and embers scorching the once promising settlement. It was a harsh sight. When she came in, it had mostly died down, but a lot of smoke still flooded the land. She was mostly there for a technical search. But just before she just decided to call the damage in, she saw a familiar bug in the ashes: Mitsi. While she was worried about what she would find, a spy affirmed that she was still alive- but barely. Only with quick thinking and on site medical attention via an amputation, she and Bronze helped Misti out of there. And because of that she lived, and Ochre made sure to visit her often. It was after this event that she decided to retire and work in the expedition as a paper bug. She still helped from time to time by signing up bugs, while being there for her newly hatched daughter named Ginger.

Life was relatively uneventful, up until the two wasps tried robbing Maroon’s store… by eating the stale berries they used as currency. Unaware of who the Chosen One and the Dark Lord were at the time, she and Maroon settled on explaining the young siblings on the basic rules of society, since they seemed pretty clueless on anything relating to manners, money, and everything outside and inbetween.

Two Brothers Reunited

It was a while until they met again. Shortly after the battle with Rocket Corp and Alan, a very frantic Dark brought an extremely injured Chosen back to them. Ochre was against it at first, but Chosen needed stabilizing and Dark looked like he was about to go down as well. The two had weirdly enough taken a liking to them, because of Ochre and Maroon’s naivety and the resulting kindness. Not wanting to push the two away into what certainly would be two teens deaths– despite them being labeled as terrorists– she let them stay until they finally decided on leaving Bugaria and starting anew when healed.

Post-Canon

With the two wasps gone, things stayed calm. Until a certain bug came back. Maroon ended up finding Orange again… but not as the bug that they knew him as before. And from what she saw by the bruise forming on Maroon, and from what he told her, King ended up becoming a prick.

Her quick-to-judgemental nature just marked King as a lost cause, with her wanting to yell his antennae off when she saw him again… but seeing him pick a fight with a navy colored mantis, was NOT what she had in mind… especially with the fact that King had a kid with him. After a sleep bomb and a very uncomfortable filing session on the incident later, she pulled King aside to get paperwork started. She made it known she was pissed… but the kid got her to calm down enough to not scream off his antennae, but instead actually talk to him. In the end, she calmed down enough to offer some support, surprisingly, but only by ensuring he talks to Maroon.

This effort worked fortunately. While it took a while, the work from Kings end made it up to Maroon and her, and they welcomed him back to their family again. Him, and their new nephew.
