Purple is an awakened mothfly who aims to make their parents proud, no matter the cost.

Appearance

Purple is visibly different from the other mothflies. His wings are much longer and tend to drag against the ground, rendering him flightless. The fur on his neck also comes all the way around in a ring. His antennae curl.

As a false monarch, Purple is a lot taller, around the same height of the average mantis. He wears a mask that is upside down with four white eyes and an orange cartoonish smile. He also wears a handmade false crown and a large dirty robe to conceal the mothflies. The robe is purple with a black trim, and a large matted ring of fur around the neck.

After moving in with King, Purple's appearance changes as a false monarch. His mask remains upside down with the design slightly different. It has a rounder look with a paler yellow smile. The robe also loses the dark coloring and the fluff around the next. The new robe has Defiant Root's iconic patterns, with a more pastel yellow for the trim. He also wears the Heal Plus medal he got from Green around his wrist.

Personality

At the start, Purple is very insecure and a little reliant on others. Despite the insecurity, it also a little egotistical and deals with the anxiety of abandonment by saying he's good enough that nobody would ever leave him. He mostly wants to make Navy proud, which extends to King after Purple falls for his manipulation. Afterwards he is extremely loyal towards King, believing everything he says to the point of denial and naivety. He was a people pleaser and was willing to sabotage his own relationships if it meant he could be with a family again. He also clings to the False Monarch form for security, as he is much stronger and safer like that, but he also modeled the appearance as closely to a mantis as he could. He sees it as himself being a "grown up bug" like his parents.

After the confrontation with Green and reconciliation with King, Purple is much more confident in himself and the people he knows. He still struggles with trust and abandonment issues, but for the most part he's happy goofing off with his friends and likes having a home to go back to.

History

Purple is an awakened mothfly, but like most recent awakened species: the process is one at a time, so he started his life with a wild colony. Eventually he got found by Navy and Orchid, who brought him home mistaking him for a lesser bug to have as a pet. Orchid caught on fast that he was actually awakened, even if he couldn't speak. Because of this, she raised them as her own child, but Navy didn't see the same. Navy only saw him as a lesser bug. When Orchid eventually died on a bounty, Navy took Purple to the Abandoned Settlement and left him there, promising to return and telling Purple to keep it safe and make him proud.

Purple was left there for a few years, taking good care of the colony enough to actually form a false monarch. Despite taking on the role, he never attacked or lured in awakened bugs, instead avoiding them the moment he realized they weren't Navy or Orchid. He fed the colony mostly through luring in Mimic Spiders, since the idea of the alternative disgusted him. As a False Monarch, he was harmless. Despite this, a bounty was still placed on him due to the Termite Kingdom's fear of false monarchs.

Blue and Green took on the bounty by themselves for a challenge, finding Purple and realizing he wasn't an actual bounty after Purple was avoiding even attacking them. Until they showed the bounty paper, and Purple panicked and trapped them in the settlement. After getting out, there found a Primal Weevil attacking the colony and Purple, and decided to assist. Working together, the three led it away from the settlement, but Purple ended up leaving them. Purple didn't think it was that big of an issue, seeing as they had it all handled, and he wanted to get back to the settlement so there was no risk of him missing his parents if they chose to arrive.

Purple assumed Blue and Green were alright, completey unaware he left them to a near-death experience. He actually really enjoyed them, and thought of them as friends, until he noticed them passing by the settlement and completely ignoring it, and by extension: him. This actually upset him, so after a few times of Blue and Green passing by, he decided to follow them.

That time, they were visiting the Termite Kingdom to fight in the Colosseum, and he could easily sneak in by simply splitting apart the mothflies. They could slip into the dome through the docks by sticking close to the ceiling, and he was small enough to slip in unnoticed. This let him easily reform, and since he really didn't understand the Colosseum or how severely the Termite Kingdom feared false monarchs, he simply knocked out the guards and replaced the final battle in it.

It didn't go well. He wasn't thinking properly because he was upset, but he did know how to fight. He also knew exactly how medals worked, so every oppurtunity he could, he'd send a mothfly to steal a medal off the Color Gang and buff himself. This strategy didn't last long, as the Color Gang started pulling out the worse medals to sabotage. Eventually, it was just Blue and Green standing against Purple, and upset that Purple attacked their friends and ruined their fun, Blue shot Purple's mask with a crossbow and broke it.

The mask shattering was a wake up call to the situation he got himself in. By the time he realized it, the guards had woken up and were ready to get rid of him. So Purple ran out of the Colosseum after taking a few more strikes, and found a spot in an alley to hide and give himself time to recover so he could fully escape. Eventually, the others found him and at that point, Blue and Green had figured he was awakened, and the others mostly just pitied them.

Second told him it was a good game, and they helped sneak him out of the Termite Kingdom. Once he was at a safe distance, they talked to the best of their abilities. Once all was made up, Purple went back to the settlement and went back to waiting. King found him, and Purple didn't attack him. He reminded them too much of their parents. Upon finding out Purple wasn't aggressive, King figured he could be used and started talking.

Purple let something about the key and Yellow slip, and King quickly found a way to get Purple on his side. Purple was assured his friends wouldn't be harmed and he was tricked into stealing the key half for King. Of course, it didn't go as planned. While he ensured no harm came to his friends, the plan changed, and when everyone was fighting, Green decided to confront him. During this fight, Purple had already run out of mothflies and was just by himself. Green kept him from running away again with his hook through Purple's wings, and when Purple tried getting King to help, since he knew he messed it up with his friends, King ignored him.

It was a worse wake-up for him. King left. His friends left. There was no illusion of being great to hide behind. His parents probably left too. So Purple ran, tearing the hook through his wings to get it out, and he ran deeper into the Deadlands. Green pursued. Purple kept running, until Green spotted and Omega's light-- one he didn't recognize, and when Purple froze and stared, Green tackled him to the ground and out of its sight.

They spoke and Purple was finally able to explain it all and properly air up everything he bottled through drawings in the dirt, while they waited for the Juvie to leave. Green offered comfort, and Purple took it, and by the time the Juvie was gone, Purple had decided he wanted to help take down King. King had already combined the two halves, and with the enhanced key, he was an impossible threat. But when all his friends were down, Purple had to make it up to them, and despite Green telling him not to, he still made a run for it to King to try and get to key.

Purple didn't make it, but he did get King to have his own realization. When Purple woke up, he wasn't dead, but instead with King, who had stayed despite his own injuries to see that he woke up. King was relieved that he was okay, and he apologized to everyone and especially Purple, and when he went to leave after giving up the key, Purple followed. Purple wanted to stay with King, not because he had to, but because he cared about him. While reluctant at first, King let him and they went home to Defiant Root.
